This year’s International Summer School of Museology was held for the 15th time, this time under the title Museums and Green Transformation.
The school, held at the Regional Museum in Koper, was attended by students, curators and museum directors from Bulgaria, Croatia, Germany, Italy, Norway, Serbia, Slovenia, Sweden, Syria, Ukraine and the United Kingdom. In its organisation and implementation, the FSK collaborated with ICOM Slovenia, the Municipality of Koper and the Regional Museum of Koper. Our special guest lecturers were Dr. Andreja Hribernik, Director of Kunsthaus Graz, Dr. Sanjin Mihelič, Director of the Museum of Arts and Crafts, Zagreb, Prof. Massimo Negri, Programme Director of the European Museum Academy, Hanna Podolyan, Dnipro Museum (Ukraine) and Dino Buljat, Maritime Interpretation Centre Malinska (Croatia), Dr. Dorian Koçi, Member of the Academy of Sciences of Albania (Albania), Nicola Urbino, PhD Candidate at the University of Vantivelli (Italy) and Dr. Marija Skočir, Head of galleries at the Museum and Galleries of the City of Ljubljana (Slovenia). In addition to the lectures and discussions, a workshop led by Borut Rovšnik was held on the evaluation of museum collections. Participants took a very active approach and came up with ideas on how to reduce energy consumption and replace it with renewable energy sources.
Dr. Andreja Rihter, Director of the Forum of Slavic Cultures, said at the event: “The Green Heritage Manifesto represents a turning point in the efforts of museums around the world to become more active in protecting the environment and promoting sustainable development. We are delighted to host this important international gathering in Koper and to contribute to the dissemination of these key ideas for our current and future work.”
