At the invitation of the International WWII Museum Association, Dr. Andreja Rihter, on behalf of the Forum of Slavic Cultures, attended the International Forum for curators of WWII museums in Beijing, China, this July, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of nationwide war of resistance against Japanese aggression.
Chinese organisation International WWII Museum Association marked the 80th anniversary of the Chinese people’s resistance against Japanese aggression with the first international forum for curators of WWII museums and together with more than 70 experts from 13 different countries highlighted the importance of studying the history of WWII from multiple perspectives and pointed out the key role of museums in collaboration, knowledge transfer and exchange. We are looking forward to this already next year when the Forum of Slavic Cultures is to join forces with the Chinese Museums Association.
Ms Rihter took part in the opening programme with her lecture on collaboration between specialised WWII museums in the Balkans after 1989. Intensified collaboration between museums and museum professionals was also one of the conclusions of the forum, in addition to their commitment to maintaining world peace.
The forum was inaugurated by Guan Qiang, Deputy Administrator of State Administration of Cultural Heritage of the People’s Republic of China, and An Laishun, Vice-President and Secretary General of Chinese Museums Association.
