At the Invitation of the Forum of Slavic Cultures the delegation from the Leo Tolstoy Museum-Estate “Yasnaya Polyana” visited Ljubljana between 23 and 25 March. Galina Alexeeva, PhD, Head of Academic Research Department and President of the ICOM International Committee for Literary Museums, and Youlya Vronskaya, Head of International Projects in the Leo Tolstoy Museum-Estate and Coordinator of the Yasnaya Polyana Award, brought the spirit of Russian literature to this early spring Ljubljana.
The first event entitled “Tolstoy and Yasnaya Polyana Once Upon a Time and Now” put in focus the Tolstoy literary museum between history and its mission and took place in the central and largest bookstore in Ljubljana called Konzorcij. At the festival “Tolstoy, the Truth Seeker” in the central Slovenian cultural institution the Cankarjev dom cultural centre Galina Alexeeva gave a lecture entitled “Seeking for Truth: Tolstoy and Utopia”. The lecture concentrated on Tolstoy’s lifelong interest for utopian societies. The lecture was followed by the discussion in which Youlya Vronskaya presented the prestigious Yasnaya Polyana Literary Award. Slovenian writer Drago Jančar is among this year’s nominees for the award as the first Slovenian author.
The visit of the delegation of the Russian Leo Tolstoy State Museum is the continuation of the co-operation of the FSC and this important institution, former home of the giant of world literature and the winner of the 2015 Živa Award for the best Slavic museum.
