Your Heritage Is Our Heritage
In the framework of the VIII International Cultural Forum in St. Petersburg the FSC presented Živa sculptures to the best Slavic Museum 2019 and the best Slavic heritage site. At a special round table the representatives of Russian and Slavic museums discussed the significance of Slavic heritage in the global context.
Following the announcement of the best Slavic museum and heritage site in October 2019 in Montenegro the FSC presented the award sculptures to the winners at the Živa after Živa ceremony in St. Petersburg. Yevgeny Artemov, Director of the Museum of Political History of Russia, the award-winning Slavic museum, said: “Živa Award is a great honour for us, especially in our centennial year. We accept this acknowledgment not only as an award, but as a contribution of our team to the development of international cultural cooperation. It is also our way of forging stronger bonds with our colleagues in other Slavic countries.”
Živa Award 2019 for the best Slavic heritage site went to Brest Hero-Fortress. “On the eve of the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory this award holds a special value and symbolism. Soldiers of over 30 nationalities defended the Brest fortress. This is our way of preserving the memory of their efforts and sacrifices,” said Director of the memorial complex, Gregory Bysyuk.
The round table Your Heritage Is Our Heritage, moderated by Mykhail Bryzgalov, General Director of the Russian National Museum of Music, featured a number of speakers, which included directors and other representatives of Slavic museums: Tijana Palkovljević Bugarski, Director of the Gallery of Matica Srpska, Serbia, Andreja Rihter, Director of the Forum of Slavic Cultures, Sarita Vujković, Director, and Žana Vukičević, curator, both from the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Saša Mesec of the Slovenian Alpine Museum, and Pavel Douša, Živa Award judge and Director of the Museum of Rural Life in Bohemia. The participants talked about Slavic heritage as an important and substantial element of European and world heritage, which is frequently neglected or even overlooked. They highlighted examples of international cooperation and stressed the need to disseminate our knowledge of tangible and intangible heritage of the Slavic countries across the world.
